I don't know if it was the quick painting session on Monday or the sugar free diet I've put myself on giving me extra clarity, but this painting went very well indeed. I feel i achieved a similar result in one session to what i can usually pull off in two. In fact, a couple of artists whose opinions I respect came up to me half way through after only an hour and a half and said it's finished, don't do any more. I did continue, putting in more detail on the hands and face, but was careful not to lose the looseness overall.

Monday 24th March 2008 - quick painting

A new painting group, this time in my own studio space. Michelle Chrisman is organising this quick painting group for every 2 weeks. We did 4 x 20 minute poses and then an hour long pose to finish.

It is a really intense way to paint and I felt like i had run a marathon by the end of it. Michelle studied this technique with Kim English and says it's a great way to improve really quickly.

My opening event at the Centinel bank! Much fun was had as friends and art lovers congregated at the bank to look at the art and drink wine. It was great to sell a few paintings too!

This picture was painted from the John Dunn Bridge in Arroyo Hondo. It was a bright sunny March morning that got windy as we were painting, typical Spring weather.

This was my third time painting Alexandra and she is always a pleasure to paint. She has a real gentle sweetness about her. Not everyone is a pleasure to look at so intently for 3 hours!

This nude of the lovely Christina was painted over 2 Wednesday sessions with Melissa and the sculptors. I particularly enjoyed all the colours in the skin of her shoulders and back, the warm and the cool tones.
